Based on leaks and rumors, GM will overhaul both the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks next year. We already saw some spy shots of the upcoming 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD model, and more information is available since then. On the previous caught prototype, even with all the coverings, we noticed a variety of changes and updates, including a new styling.
The most exciting news is that this model could also get a 6.6L Duramax Diesel engine upgrade, that should translate into more than 500 hp and 1000 lb.-ft. Interestingly, beside heavy-duty models, the manufacturer will also upgrade light duty trucks. All models are expected to be revealed sometime next year.
2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Redesign
The 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD is set to introduce a variety of changes and updates. As far as we saw, this model will gain revised exterior styling on the front and rear. The new LED signature lights are visible with a more organic shape, and they seem brighter compared to the current model’s LED signature.
We also noticed revised headlights that now incorporate a four-light cluster and wider grille. At the back, the truck hosts a new set of taillights, and it retains the same tailgate, bumper, as the current one.
Like the light duty trucks, the new 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD will be modern and spacious inside. Choosing the Crew Cab model, you’ll get outstanding headroom and legroom. However, depending on the trim level, the design inside will vary. As standard, the Sierra HD offers a large head-up display and a user-friendly touch-screen infotainment system.
Stepping into the Denali version, you can count on more luxury. This trim is highlighted by premium leather seating surfaces, contrast stitching, along with dark aluminum trim and open-pore wood. The AT4, which is an off-road-focused trim, adds aluminum finishes on the steering wheel, center stack, and sill plates. Also, the headrests of this model come with an AT4 logo.
2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Engine Upgrades
If reports are accurate, the forthcoming 2023 GMC Sierra HD could get some upgrades in the engine department. The first three-quarter and full-ton trucks will probably get an upgraded 6.6L Duramax V8 diesel engine, producing 500 horsepower with 1,085 lb.-ft of torque.
We’re expecting the new truck to tow even more than the current 36,000 pounds. The current Duramax V8 delivers 445 horsepower with 910 lb.-ft of torque, and it comes with a 10-speed “Allison” automatic transmission. By comparison, Ford with its 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel produces 475 ponies with 1,050 lb.-ft of torque, while the Ram HD with 6.7-liter Cummins I6 diesel 420 horsepower and 1,075 lb.-ft of torque.
2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Release Date, Price
The new 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD will receive for the following year a new styling and probably upgraded diesel engine. If rumors are accurate about the engine, the forthcoming model will become the first one that will break the barrier of 500 horses in class.
However, considering all upgrades and changes, the price of this truck could significantly increase. The current model starts at less than $70k.
