The upcoming 2021 Mazda BT50 remains a mid-size pickup truck closely related to the Isuzu D-Max model. On the other hand, BT50 will introduce another mid-cycle refreshment. That includes various cosmetic upgrades and interior updates. Moreover, even the performance will be improved for 2021.
There is no new-gen model yet, but the latest changes will surely boost the sales of this pickup. Whatsoever, Mazda plans to sell its new BT50 globally in order to increase its popularity. The collaboration between Mazda and Isuzu will surely provide some good results. If you didn’t know, the previous BT50 model has been based on the Ford Ranger pickup.
2021 Mazda BT50 Styling
As for the exterior design, the new 2021 Mazda BT-50 will introduce numerous changes. Some of those changes are significant but most of them are minor. Still, the new mid-size pickup truck will look different and more upscale. As we said, Isuzu had a great impact on the new design. Two companies developed a brand-new platform.
Thanks to that, BT50 pickup will now offer new coil-over suspension instead of the current three-leaf configuration. Design-wise, BT50 will introduce new front fascia, and the vehicle’s shape has been changed too. The front part now comes with a redesigned grille and all-new LED headlamps. The rear part will suffer similar modifications, including new taillights.
First Look Inside
On the inside, a new 2021 Mazda BT50 will introduce numerous updates. Again, some interior bits are clearly taken from the Isuzu D-Max model. On the other hand, some parts are refreshed and are looking unique. The current model is based on the Ford Ranger. That will change in 2021 so expect a different interior with more upscale materials and a more stylish look. Mazda will try to deliver as much as possible high-tech amenities.
Even new driver-assistance aids are available but most of these systems will be optional on the base trim level. With so many updates, BT50 pickup is now definitely ready to rival more established competitors in the mid-size segment. Unfortunately, BT50 pickup will be offered in a double cab configuration exclusively.
2021 Mazda BT50 Under the Hood
The refreshed design and more upright interior are cool, but what about engine lineup. The 2021 Mazda BT50 will surely host a couple of changes under the bonnet. However, there is no official info about possible engine changes. Still, some reliable reports are suggesting a new powertrain option. In Australia and Asia, BT50 pickup will arrive with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel that generates 177 hp.
New diesel will tow over 8,000 pounds while the current engine is good for 7,700 pounds. A 2.5-liter turbodiesel is another likely candidate but for some other markets. Lastly, Mazda will borrow one engine from its SUV lineup and it should be an optional engine in 2021.
Price and Release Date
The 2021 Mazda BT50 is coming to the markets in the second half of 2020. That means this pickup will become available in the coming months. The price will start higher than before, most likely at around $30,000. We will let you know once the Mazda releases all of the info about the new engine.
