2021 GMC Canyon

The forthcoming 2021 GMC Canyon is a mid-size pickup that has so much to offer. Available in AT4, Denali, Cyclone, and other trim levels, Canyon is one of the most reliable models in the segment. We should expect a complete redesign in 2022, so 2021 Canyon will get another mid-cycle refreshment. That means the 2021 model will be a second-gen model.

However, some significant upgrades could happen before the third-gen Canyon arrives. For a start, a hybrid powertrain is a possibility. In order to deliver a hybrid version, GM will have to modify the platform. Furthermore, don’t be surprised if General Motors introduces an all-new architecture. The interior will gain more tech and you should expect better safety ratings.

2021 GMC Canyon May Be Built on the New GM VSS-T Platform

The current model is using a brand’s GMT 31XX architecture. The rumors are suggesting a new GM VSS-T platform that could accommodate a hybrid powertrain. Remember, this is just another speculation, and nothing is official yet. In terms of styling, the 2021 GMC Canyon will arrive with minor updates. The manufacturer plans to deliver a more modern look and new exterior paints.

The front fascia comes with larger headlights and a wider grille. In the back, Canyon won’t introduce any sort of change. The customers still have two-bed options and two cab setups. GM’s removable tailgate is optional on the base trim level and upper trims will get additional chrome accents. Lastly, Canyon will once again offer the Black Out exterior trim and its popular Nightfall Package.

Interior Improvements

The forthcoming 2021 GMC Canyon will remain as practical and comfy as before. The mid-size pickup will keep its current cabin design and interior layout. This is what we expect to happen as the interior already looks upright and up to date. However, General Motors will deliver more tech and more standard equipment. The price will increase but it is a must for the mid-size pickup truck.

Some sources are suggesting wider seats and new interior materials. We are still talking about the base trim level. As for the upper trim levels, leather seats with contrast stitching won’t change for sure. Canyon will surely gain a new infotainment system and new driver-assistance aids. Thanks to that, expect slightly improved safety ratings.

2021 GMC Canyon Engine

The all-new 2021 GMC Canyon will continue to roll with the same engine lineup. That means 2.5-liter gasoline remains a standard engine choice. It can produce 200 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. An optional 3.6-liter V6 with 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of twists is perhaps the most reliable option.

Still, a 2.8-liter diesel is the most popular choice thanks to its fuel efficiency and torque ratings. This turbodiesel is good for 180 horses and 370 lb-ft of torque. GM offers an Active Tow system and diesel engine can tow up to 7,700 pounds.

Price and Release Date

In terms of price, the 2021 GMC Canyon will cost a little bit more than its predecessor. The mid-size pickup will cost $24,000. It is a small price increase but this model will now offer more tech. If you want more luxury pickup, you can get one for $35,000. There are 20 different configurations so Canyon is a very easy-to-customize model. The release date is a mystery because of the Coronavirus. The new model will most likely arrive in the first quarter of 2021. However, don’t get surprised if you see it before that.
